Two Irish accountants are among the first group of students to achieve an MSc in Accounting by taking advantage of a new programme in the UK which means they have to attend just two weekend modules.

The University of Glamorgan says the results from the first programme have been exceptional with one of the Irish students earning a distinction which will be awarded at the graduation ceremony in Wales on July 21st.  Glamorgan's Faculty of Accounting was ranked in the top 5 in the UK by the Times Higher Education Supplement.

The programme allows busy professionals the opportunity to gain a coveted MSc without interfering with their career, It was “designed by accountants for  accountants” and can be completed within 12 months because students are allowed exemptions if they hold standard UK or Irish professional accounting qualifications.

Both weekend modules are held at a conference centre in the Thames Valley close to Heathrow and are managed for the university by Management Development Centre Ltd who also provide the novel on-line Webucate system, which provides vital ”virtual”  peer group support throughout the course.

MDC Managing Director Mike Sands says: “The first group have delighted everyone with their achievements and the university says that several of their dissertations are capable of being published in an academic refereed journal".

“Most professionals want to progress with their careers and this MSc has been designed to allow them to gain a valuable qualification without interfering with their daily work. Furthermore with most professional bodies emphasising the need for CPD the MSc is particularly useful as it often counts for two whole years' worth of CPD.”

MDC say that the next programme starts in October and more information can be found at www.accountingmasters.co.uk or by calling the head office on +44 1429 837700
